UniFi G6 Pro Entry Review — 12MP Camera, Face ID, Package Cam & Visitor Directory
Most businesses are still doing access control like it's 2005 — a keypad, a fob, and a camera so bad you couldn't identify anyone. The G6 Pro Entry puts a proper 12MP security-grade camera into an access reader, adds a dedicated 8MP package cam, and brings face ID, NFC, visitor QR codes, and a directory. Here's the full review.
What Makes It Different
UniFi Access isn't new — the G2 Reader Pro already had a camera. But Ubiquiti asked what happens if you put a proper camera in it. The answer is a 12MP 1/1.6-inch sensor — the same class found in dedicated security cameras — plus a first-ever dedicated 8MP package camera pointing downward to capture parcels at the door.

Access Methods
Visitor Management
Create a one-time or recurring visitor pass in UniFi Access, assign it to a door, and send a QR code via SMS. The visitor scans it on the reader's lower camera and the door opens. Passes can be added to Apple or Google Wallet. I tested the full flow — received the SMS, added to Apple Wallet, held it under the package camera, door opened. Clean and intuitive.
Directory & Intercom
The touchscreen display enables a proper directory — not available on the standard G6 Entry. Create a directory in the Interface Designer, assign contacts (tenants, reception, security), and it appears on screen. A visitor taps a name, the call goes to the UniFi Viewer app, you answer, talk, and hit unlock. You can also brand the interface with a company logo and control which authentication methods appear.
Image Quality — Day & Night
Daytime: number plate recognition worked at distance, face detection with path tracking functional, package camera captured a parcel clearly. Night: IR illumination plus colour night vision when ambient light is sufficient. Face ID at night took a couple of seconds longer than in daylight but worked — the device's own illumination lit the face clearly. Number plates became readable as a vehicle approached to a usable distance.

The $100 premium buys you the touchscreen, directory, and upgraded camera. If your site needs visitor management or multi-tenant directory — get the Pro. Single-door entry for a small team with credentials — the G6 Entry is perfectly capable.
Verdict
The G6 Pro Entry is the most capable access reader in the UniFi range. The 12MP camera matches dedicated security cameras, the package cam is practically useful, and the visitor management and directory features make it a credible commercial door solution. At $379 — for a device that appears in both Access and Protect, reads faces at night, and manages visitors — the value is strong. If you're speccing a commercial site with UniFi Access, this should be your default reader.
