Overview
InsideWire was engaged to design and deploy a complete network and WiFi infrastructure for a large place of worship in Cambridgeshire. The site hosts a wide range of activities including weekly services, community events, and a large Saturday school regularly attended by over 300 children.
During major religious events, attendance across the site reaches between 500 and 1000 people — all placing simultaneous demand on the network. The organisation needed a modern infrastructure capable of supporting that scale reliably, alongside AV systems and digital learning tools.
The Challenge
The existing infrastructure was not capable of supporting the growing demands of the organisation. With only two access points attempting to cover an entire large multi-room building, WiFi dead zones were widespread across the main halls and smaller rooms.
- No properly designed network infrastructure
- Only two access points covering the entire building
- Significant WiFi dead zones across large halls and rooms
- Slow and unreliable network performance
- Outdated analogue CCTV systems
- Limited support for modern AV and digital technology
"As the organisation introduced more digital tools for teaching and events, the limitations of the existing setup became increasingly problematic. Reliable connectivity had become essential."
The Solution
InsideWire delivered a complete network redesign and deployment built on a modern UniFi infrastructure. The project began with a full site survey and network design using UniFi Design Center — validating access point placement across every hall and room before a single cable was run.
- Full site survey and WiFi coverage design using UniFi Design Center
- New network rack build with structured cable management
- Full UniFi networking stack — gateway, switching, and wireless
- Access point deployment across all main halls and rooms
- VLAN segmentation for improved security and traffic management
- Modern CCTV infrastructure planning
- Installation carried out outside of normal operating hours
Technology Deployed
Results
Following deployment, the improvements were immediately noticeable across the building. The organisation can now support large gatherings, weekend school sessions, and AV-heavy events without network issues.
- Full WiFi coverage throughout the entire building
- Stable roaming across multiple halls and rooms
- Reliable connectivity for AV systems during services and events
- Secure VLAN segmentation across the network
- Improved CCTV visibility across the premises
- Network capable of supporting 500–1000 simultaneous users during peak events
InsideWire Continues to Support This Site
Under an ongoing managed support arrangement, InsideWire monitors the network, handles configuration changes, manages VLAN segmentation updates, and adjusts firewall and connectivity settings as the organisation continues to grow and introduce new technology systems.

Key Takeaway
This project highlights the importance of proper network planning for large multi-use buildings. Attempting to cover large spaces with minimal infrastructure consistently leads to unreliable connectivity. By carefully designing the network architecture and validating access point placement before deployment, it is possible to deliver stable connectivity even in environments supporting hundreds of simultaneous users across varied spaces.
